Antique 1760 Lignum Vitae Coin Silver Surgeon's Case Box French Armorial Dragon

Description

This magnificent custom fitted cylinder box/case of lignum vitae has beautifully engraved solid silver mounts (unmarked) and shows shrinkage cracks to the beautiful and dense wood as pictured.  Measuring 9 1/4" tall x 3 5/8" across it features 3 sections that thread together and a main body with silver mounted interior having 19 small compartments. It has 2 silver bands with engraving and the top is set with a 2 3/4" solid silver disc engraved with elaborate crowned armorial shield flanked by dragons or griffins with the motto "Liberte Tout Entiere"  There are no contents and the cracks, while prominent, do not make the box terribly fragile.  This is no run of the mill piece of treen, and the armorial likely makes it rather important.
